Buying clearance and closeout flooring

Great prices come with one catch: when it is gone, it is gone. Here is what the words mean and how to buy smart.

What the words mean

Clearance means the price has been cut to move the stock. Closeout means the product is being ended, so once the remaining stock sells, it may not come back. You will see both words on our clearance deals page.

Flooring ends up on clearance for ordinary reasons: a line is being discontinued, there is more of it than the seller wants to keep, or the space is needed for something new. A lower price does not mean a lower-quality floor, so judge it by the specs.

Everything we sell is new. Clearance describes the price and the supply, not the condition of the flooring.

What to check before you buy

  • The spec

Check the material, thickness and, for vinyl plank, the wear layer. These tell you what the floor is built for, which matters more than the price.

  • Square feet per box

Coverage differs from product to product. Use it to work out how many boxes you need, not the number of planks or tiles.

  • How many boxes are available

Stock moves quickly, so call or email to confirm how many boxes we have before you plan around it. Compare that to the number you need, including waste and a spare.

  • The photo

Colors can look different on a screen than in a room. If the color matters to you, come by the yard and see it in person.

Buy it all at once

With closeout stock, you may not be able to reorder. Measure the room, add for cuts and waste, and buy everything for the job together. Flooring is made in batches, and a later batch can look a little different, so boxes bought at the same time are most likely to match.

Then add an extra box or two for future repairs. With a discontinued floor, a spare box may be the only way to fix a damaged plank or tile years from now. Our how much flooring to order guide has a calculator that does the math.

Questions people ask

What is the difference between clearance and closeout?
Clearance means the price has been reduced to move the stock. Closeout means the product is being ended, so once it sells out it may not be available again. Both can be a good value, and both are worth buying in one order.
Why is clearance flooring cheaper?
Usually because the product is being discontinued, there is more of it than the seller wants to keep, or the space is needed for new stock. A lower price does not automatically mean lower quality, so check the specs on the listing.
Can I get more later if I run short?
Possibly not. Closeout stock is limited, and a later batch can look slightly different from the first. That is why we suggest measuring carefully, adding for waste, and buying an extra box or two at the start.
Is clearance flooring new or used?
Everything we sell is new. Clearance and closeout describe the price and the supply, not the condition.
Can I see the flooring before I buy it?
Yes. You are welcome to come to the yard in Austin during business hours and look at it in person.
How do I check the quantity?
Stock moves quickly, so call or email us with the product and the number of boxes you need, and we will confirm what is available before you drive over or plan your job around it.
